Yesterday: An invitation for "The Last Drug" to participate in the Ibiza International Film Festival reaches our in-boxes. Short research: Also the World Marijuana Film Festival takes place that very same weekend in Ibiza! Plus, patron of the Ibiza IFF is Terry Gilliam, infamous director of "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas", and as such an expert on Gonzo style film-making. Wonderful coincidence! The week I'm talking about starts on mai 28th. We will try all we can to get a good version of The Last Drug together until this deadline and if we succeed, the official premiere in Leipzig and - of course at the same time - in the net can be scheduled in june!
You may ask why the heck we're still post producing "The Last Drug" after over a year. We keep asking ourselves the same question, every day. While chatting with other film-makers in Second Life the other day I became clear about this: Generally, we're not only pioneering in licensing and distribution matters but also in film-making itself. Yet this takes time as you can lose your way every now and then. Let's hope it's worth it. As for compositing, being about to finish the process I sense the necessity of a new category on IMDb, a new genre: Trip!

One of the last steps of the postproduction lies still ahead: the color correction. This step is essential for "The Last Drug" as the color schemes serve not only the look and feel but also the orientation: That way the different subplots are intuitively recognizable which is crucial for a complex movie of that sort. For example, the neurology subplot in "The Last Drug" will be provided with a color scheme we were testing with the following pictures:
Lawrence Lessig, "Elvis of Cyberlaw" (WIRED) and founder of Creative Commons calls thousands of hackers to unite in the war against a further radicalization of the copyright on the 23rd Chaos Communication Congress in Berlin. We put this one hour, standing ovations gaining talk into a 6 minutes clip.
I was stumbling through post-production with my old laptop for month now, the machine being more and more overstressed. So I decided to get in some money for a new workstation, jobbing on a surgeon congress, where I gathered some details from neurosurgeons for the movie, along the way. And here it is, the new workstation for the editing process of "The Last Drug". Editing will take place in Core 2 Duo-speed from now on, it was about time...
Some of the shots in "The Last Drug" will be software generated totally or almost totally, because we will have more control this way and decrease the cost of production. arroway textures is taking care of this challenging task and released the first previews.
