VEB FILM Leipzig
Dolly-, Crane- and Helicoptershots

Gerald Menzel is the man behind the computer graphics - all the shots that are completely or mostly computer generated.
He built 3D models of the film locations, helped building them in real life, digitized them again and is now creating all shots, that we couldn't shoot on set: a car chase, a surreal sunrise, a superhuge motel sign and 50 others.
We will update the status right here.

Versionstrennung / Open Source Film
Written by Stefan Kluge
Tuesday, 29 April 2008

Kaleidoscope of Future
Written by Stefan Kluge
Thursday, 17 April 2008
Sachtler products are well known among film professionals. On the occasion of their 50 years anniversary they talked to 4 filmmakers about their personal views on the future of film. I was lucky to represent VEB FILM Leipzig as an Pioneer of Open Source.
The article will appear in an anniversary magazine on the NAB - lets see if we get feedback. I was hoping for something like this: "Hello? Mr. Kluge, VEB FILM Leipzig? We would like to pay for your next movie. Yes, we won't influence any creative decisions ... no, of course not ... the story is totally up to you. Sure! You are free to release under free licenses ... We thought about a $5 mio budget? You need 7? All right then. I'll send the check tomorrow."

re:publica 08: result

Again, this year, the re:publica was well worth the trip to Berlin. I met Peter of The Pirate Bay and found out, that he was a member of a cracking group, that cracked a C64 game, that I developed in the 90s =o) Or lets call it an intro-link, since there was no copy protection to remove.
An editor from a german public broadcaster was attending my lecture and did a quick interview afterwards. For another TV channel we made a fast motion recording with me standing in front of a subway entrance for a piece on filesharing. Lets see how it turns out.
My panel discussion on Creative Commons was fun, too. So I guess I'll be there next year again.

VEB in Berlin on 4th of April
Written by Stefan Kluge
Thursday, 20 March 2008

The re:publica is a 3 days conference in Berlin where people from the German speaking Internet as well as a few international Digital Activists meet for a bunch of lectures, panel discussions, workshops and free beer :D
It's well worth the trip, even if you have to fly in, as I do. I'll be giving a speech and taking part on a panel on Saturday, where there is a special focus on internet video.
The guys from Miro Open Source TV will be there, too, by the way, and I'm sure we will have a nice idea how to get Miro-lovers involved in The Last Drug, once it's out.

In unserem Sounddesign-Forum hat sich ein höchst informativer Thread zum Thema "Open Source Filmemachen: Digitale Bohème oder Selbstausbeutung?" aus der Perspektive der Sounddesign-Competition entsponnen.

Someone Off-Line Finally Understood the Creative Commons Idea!

You can go out and watch a nice mash up of Route 66 at the Theatre of Graz, Austria. The stage designer Jo Schramm used some of our footage in a few scenes of the play GO WEST: it will be projected on the walls, from a bus that is staffed by an orchestra that is supposed to be driving at the Route 66. That's why you should allow the "derivative works" attribute in your CC-License of choice!
